First time around HGC

Only 9 holes played due to time constraints, and several of the holes poor scores were partially down to me trying to work out where the flags were!! The rest of them were down to me getting to grips with the ball hardly ever level with my feet!!

It may take a few attempts to get my score back to the low 50's again!

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 HOLE
4 4 5 3 4 3 4 4 4 Par35
5 8 8 5 9 4 9 6 9 64

So a rather disappointing 29 Over Par...

The Last Supper In Detail

At http://www.haltadefinizione.com/en/ you can view a 16 BILLION pixel rendition of this classic work of art...

The interface is pretty slick, and if you are unlikely to get chance to see it in the flesh anytime soon, it may be the only way you will ever get to see it in detail!

From the BBC News site:
An Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera, reported that a sophisticated monitoring and filtration system introduced during a restoration of the chapel in the late 1990s was not preventing particles or substances that could damage the work being brought in by visitors.

The Last Supper was painted by Leonardo da Vinci at the end of the 15th Century and, because of the experimental techniques he used, parts of the masterpiece subsequently peeled off and were badly damaged.

The BBC's Frances Kennedy says the paper reported that equipment monitoring air quality inside the refectory showed that levels of fine particle pollution had tripled in the past two years.

It quoted experts suggesting these particles could settle on the work, eventually creating a dark misty layer.

New Family Member

Almost forgot to mention, the Bright family are now the proud owners of a Hamster called 'JaffaCake'

The kids have brought it between them, and he spends 1 week at a time in each of their bedrooms.

Halesowen Golf Club

Well, I've gone and done it! - I've just joined Halesowen Golf Club.  Not the greatest time of year, you may think, but it does have it's advantages.

1) Membership is from April to April, so it's not such a large initial outlay for now. 2) It will be a lot quieter around the course over the next 3 to 4 months, so I can potter around without too much embarrassment.

Not Getting Any Better

This weeks golfing trip was to Himley again...  It was a little on the cool side (10 degrees!) and we were racing to get finished before it got dark...  Ok excuses over!  We were both dire!!  Every Tee shot put us in trouble!

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 HOLE
4 4 4 4 4 3 5 4 4 Par36
9 5 6 7 7 5 6 9 5 59

So 23 Over Par...

I did at least manage a draw with Neil!!

Getting Better

Warley again on Monday afternoon. After a good session at the range with the Driver, I was feeling quite positive and apart from a couple of scuffed shots from the tee at the 6th and 8th, and some difficult long grass on the 8th it was a very good round - one of my best to data...  And I even managed to get a par on the 9th!!

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 HOLE
4 3 4 3 3 4 4 4 4 Par33
6 5 5 5 4 7 7 9 4 52

So 21 Over Par...

Still managed to loose to Neil by one shot!!

All Change

Today I submitted 30 days notice to cancel my Membership at the Gym, thereby saving me in the region of £600 per year.  I also requested an application form for joining Halesowen Golf Club as a member, costing approx £650 per year.

That is not including the joining fee, which you actually pay over THREE years, and only covers WEEKDAY usage.  Full membership to cover weekends is an extra £150 per year, and given the limited chances I would have to get out to the golf course for any length of time in a typical weekend...

I am also considering letting Alex join, that's £120 for the years - 7 days, so I could go with Alex on a Sunday afternoon etc, and caddy for him over a few holes??  Not too sure about that yet tho'

Tendonosis

I had an appointment with a specialist at the Royal Orthopedic Hospital last night...

Seems the problem with my Achilles for the last 7 months is Tendonosis.  Basically the degeneration of the fibers in a specific area is faster than the ability of the tendon to repair itself.  This is down to a lack of blood vessels in the particular area, and it seems that some controlled strength training is the way forward.  This will, apparently, increase the blood flow in the problem area, which in turn will increase the tendons ability to repair itself!!

Just waiting for an appointment from the Physio at the RHO so that I can get started.

Return to Warley Woods

After a few games at Himley, we returned to Warley this afternoon.. some very wayward tee shots on my part, but much improved approach play.

4 3 4 3 3 4 4 4 4 Par33
8 5 6 4 7 8 5 8 7 58

So 25 Over Par...

On the plus side, I actually beat Neil by one shot!!

Holidays Over

The weekend at Stoke went well, it was nice to see Andy again and a good night was had by all. On Sunday morning Arthur managed to find a 'tap' of the correct size and thread to clear out the roof fixings for the roofbox - no more rattles..!

Monday's trip up the M6 went well, all 7 passengers and a fully loaded roofbox - 190 miles at an average of 52MPG.

The only real problem with the whole holiday was that it was too short :-( A few hours in the spa, a massage, several pints of Guiness, a bottle or two of wine and it was time to go home.

Friday's trip home was via Windamere - very nice views, and quite a demanding drive - especially for a fully loaded scenic!! By the time we got home at about 19:30, we had still managed to average 50MPG.

We have already booked to go back again next August, this time for a full 7 days.

Winding Down...

Today is my last day at work this month!!

Amanda's mom is having the kids from this evening till Sunday afternoon as Amanda and I are going to Stoke for the weekend.  It's Andy Finikins 40th Birthday, and we are going to celebrate with him - Chinese Meal and a few drinks.

When we get back on Sunday, it will be time to pack for CentreParcs... Ready to leave around 09:00 Monday morning.

Fitted the roof box back on the car last night - that was not without it's complications - the fixing mounts on the car roof have got a little corroded, and I can't lock the box down tight!  There is a good dose of WD40 soaking at the moment, and I am tweaking my nuts at regular intervals - so it should be OK!!

Are You Secure II?

My subscription to McAfee expired today, but I have not been too happy with that application for a while, it seems to be really eating memory and CPU cycles.

Added to that the latest edition of PC PRO did a group test on security software, McAfee only managed to detect 78% of the test infections!  The winner was Kaspersky Internet Security with 98% - and it's cheaper (£66 for a two year subscription with anytime download) - having just installed it and started it running, it's already found one e-mail virus that McAfee had missed!!

Are you up to date?

Secunia have released a BETA version of their Personal Software Inspector - Find out if you have been keeping up to date with all those little apps you have scattered all over your hard drive.

Tempus Fugit...

Wow!  It's August already...  Soon be Holiday time, we received our welcome pack from CentreParcs today, so only a couple of weeks to go before we head off to Cumbria.

This morning Amanda and I were up early, as we had to be at the local scout hut for 07:15!  Today is the 100th anniversary of the first scout camp on Brownsea Island.  To celebrate, scout troupes all over the world held a special sunrise ceremony today at 08:00 where they all renewed their promises. In addition breakfast sandwiches & tea were provided to anyone who attended.

Alex is very tired, they had a 'sleepover' at the scout hut last night, and it was almost midnight before anyone got any sleep, they were all up and dressed by 07:00 this morning.

I have suggested he gets some sleep this afternoon, as this evening we are going to Old Trafford to watch a pre season friendly (between ManU and Inter-Millan) with Neil, Ryan & Nial - so another late night!
