With Styling like this...
TEATRO D1 - The Super Media Center 2005 PC

The Media centre PC in your lounge may actually be worth considering!
Read more about it here
I have been Xmas shopping - Bloke style!
Yep, it's that time of the year again - time to indulge youself with a large portion of "Boys Toys"... We visited our local Renault dealer today and have placed an order for a Grand Scenic
We are having the smaller 100 bhp diesel version with a few added bits (Slidding centre console, sunroof, parking sensors etc) in a metalic "Flame Red". The current expected delivery date is 20th Feb 2005, but we intend to hold back registration till 1st March and have it on an 05 plate.
I have checked the insurance, and if anything it is actually slightly cheaper than our current 1.6 Megane... Have you tried out www.confused.com yet
hehehe, happy christmas to me!

Back to the Dentist - and it's not good news!
For a couple of months now I have been making trips to my dentist... Basically I have a crown on one of my front teeth (A cycling accident when I was 17), which has kept comming out. The verdict this time is that the root is rotten and infected and will have to be taken out!!
The options I have are:
Live with a gap - errrmmmm NO!
Have a Denture - NO!
Have a Bridge - No! - I really am not keen on the idea of distroying two perfectly good teeth to hold a false one in place!
Have a Dental Implant - Uhmmmm Looks really good, should give a permenant solution - only downside is : it's expensive... Aprox £1600
So Implant it looks like it is then. I have to go and get an impression taken in January for a temporary denture, and then have to see the specialist to discuss my options - really not looking forwards to haveing the root extracted!

New Toy Time again!!!
It's no good, I just could not resist the lure of a better quality semi-SLR type digital camera. The Minolta DiMage f300 is good, but is just sooo sllllooooowww at starting up, charging the flash etc...
Inspired by the recent purchase of a Canon EOS 20D by a friend (Very nice!!) I looked for similar but a LOT cheaper. I finally decided upon the Minolta DiMage A200
I bought it from Jacobs in Birmingham, where I got a deal of a Lexar 80x 512 MByte Compactflash card, a lowepro soft case and the camera for £555 - a saving of £35 on retail. OK, possibly not the absolute cheapest I could have got it for, but I feel it's worth a small premium to be able to go and shout loudly in busy shop if you have a problem that is not being handled to your satisfaction!

I Finally got my Birthday present on Monday
After a 13 week wait, on Monday this week I finally made it to Dado's and got my Armband tattoo done.

I am really pleased with how it turned out, and it was nowhere near as painfull as I feared it might be. Uncomfortable would be a better word. It was a little sore for the rest of the day, and early the next morning, but now it's fine. It's scabbing over just nice, just need to wait a few weeks now for the grey to fade to it final lighter shade.

Mike's out of Hospital
The results from the Cat-Scan are mixed:
Good - no further growth of existing tumours
Not So Good - no shrinkage of existing tumours
Bad - a couple of new shadows on his lungs, which may (or may not) be more cancer
He is however feeling a lot better in himself, and is looking forwards to Xmas

Amy is 11 Years old today
It's Amy's 11th BIrthday, and due to the ongoing illness of Amanda's dad, we decieded against having the usual "Familly Party". Amy was a little dissapointed, althought she understood the reasons.
So I suggested taking "half-a-dozen" of her friends to the pictures to see "The Incredibles"... She ended up inviting 9! So off to the cinema we walked this afternoon, Me, Amanda, Alex and 10 11 year old girls!!! Total Chaos, but the film was excellent and the girls behaved well. We then came back home for a Domino's Pizza and a slice of cake.
If there is anything noiser than 9 11 year old girls in an enclosed space - I sure don't want to hear it!
10 Children and 2 Adults at the Cimena - £44
PopCorn & Coke for same - £33
Pizza & More Coke - £36
Look of delight on daughters face - Priceless!

w.Blogger V4.00 Release Candidate 2 installed
I have just updated from Beta 1 to RC 2, looking at the history file I would expect no issues, and certainly do not currently have any of the issues fixed between the two versions
Hospital Again
Amanda's dad, Mike, is back in hospital again. he has been battling against cancer for the last few years with some success. He has been thro' a colostomy, and recently completed a 6 week couse of kemotherapy. He was due to get the results from his latest cat-scan on Monday, but instead was admitted with severe heart palpatations.
He has been in for 5 days now, and is feeling very down.

The Da-Vinci Code
I have recently completed "The Da-Vinci Code" by Dan Brown, WOW! It's one of the best novels I have read in years!! I have no idea where the facts end and the fiction starts, but it all blends so seamlessly and it is a real page turner.
It seems that Ron Howard has the task of turning this book into a film, I hope he does a good job of it, I fear for the results of a "Hollywood" treatment on such a complex story line!
I have now started to read "Digital Fortress" by the same author, the story has already captivated me, but I do have a few issues with the repeated confusion between a 64BIT key and a 64 CHARACTER key, a small point, but enough to reduce the credability of the story.

Happy Birthday Amanda
Today is Amanda's 38th birthday... Congratulations sweetheart
She has just opened her cards and presents, and we are going into Birmingham as soon as we are all washed and dressed. The annual German market is currently on, she has £40 in birthday money to spend and we all fancy a cooked breakfast!

Hayley Westenra in Concert
[Listening to: River of Dreams - Hayley Westenra - Pure (04:20)]
Last night I took Amy to Symphony Hall in Birmingham to see Hayley Westenra in concert.
It was a really good evening, the girl has got the voice of an angel!!
She walked onto stage at 7:30 pm sharp, and started singing "Amazing Grace" whilst the small orchestra looked on silently, slowly joining in to wards the halfway stage. I was almost in tears, what a fantastic voice! she sang 4 songs and then introduced her "guest" a greek tenor Mario who perfored two songs - then an interval : after 35 minutes!!
The concert resumed after 20 minutes with two solo violin performances, before Hayley returned in a changed outfit. The same "a few from her, followed by a few from him" with another change of frock... Finally the obligatory encore which include a haunting version of "Pokarekare Ana" (another slightly moist eye moment) and "Hine e Hine" which finished as a duet with Mario.
There were numerous plugs for a "Special Edition" of Pure, on sale for a mere £15 - Rather a lot of money for an assorted collection of 7 additional tracks, when you already have the original album! The program was £6, again a little expensive given the size of it
Overall verdict - Excellent performances - just a little on the short side, not really very good value for money

The "INK" has been delayed
It was originally going to be 2nd week in October - but Dado was on holiday... there was then a period were Steve wasn't available due to work commitments, but finally we booked Thursday 4th November - the day after tommorow!!
Unfortunately, that has had to be cancelled, there has been a death in the family, and the shop will be shut for a few days. Steve is going to arrange another appointment for sometime soon....
